Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by amide bonds, and their storage stability depends on sequence, length, and three-dimensional structure. Chemical degradation can occur through hydrolysis, oxidation, deamidation, and aggregation, while physical changes such as precipitation or surface adsorption reduce recovery. Storage conditions are chosen to slow these processes without altering the peptide itself. Because peptides vary widely, no single condition suits every sequence, so laboratories often establish stability empirically for each batch.
Temperature is a primary factor because most degradation reactions proceed more slowly at lower temperatures. Lyophilized peptides are commonly held at -20 °C or below, although some sequences remain stable at 2–8 °C for limited periods. Moisture uptake during handling can accelerate hydrolysis, so sealed containers and desiccants are used. Solutions are generally less stable than powders and may require freezing at -80 °C or refrigeration, depending on the peptide. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can promote aggregation even when the storage temperature is otherwise suitable.
Aseptic technique reduces microbial and particulate contamination when a peptide solution will be used in cell culture or other sensitive applications. Work in a clean area, use sterile containers and filtered tips, and avoid touching vial interiors. Preparing aliquots immediately after dissolution limits repeated temperature cycling, which is a common cause of aggregation and activity loss. Low-binding plastic tubes are preferred for peptides that adsorb to surfaces, especially hydrophobic or positively charged sequences. Labels should record identity, solvent, concentration, and preparation date so that later use can be traced.
Shipping and short-term transfer require attention to temperature control and physical stability. Frozen solutions are commonly sent on dry ice, while lyophilized powders may travel with gel packs or insulated packaging. Thawing should be done slowly on ice or in a refrigerator, not by vigorous heating, and the solution should be mixed gently before use. Temperature loggers can document excursions during transit, but their presence does not prove that a peptide remained stable. Analytical checks such as chromatography or mass spectrometry can verify identity and purity after storage or shipping.

Lyophilization removes water under vacuum from a frozen solution, leaving a porous cake or powder. Formulation excipients such as sugars or polyols can stabilize structure during freezing and drying and can raise the glass transition temperature. Residual moisture in the final product remains a critical variable because even small amounts can support hydrolysis over time. Storage recommendations often specify desiccation, darkness, and low temperature, though exact conditions depend on the peptide and its intended use. Stability studies measure changes under defined conditions rather than predicting absolute shelf life.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by amide bonds. Their stability depends on sequence, length, and the chemical environment. Common degradation routes include hydrolysis of the peptide backbone, oxidation of methionine or cysteine residues, deamidation of asparagine or glutamine, and aggregation through hydrophobic or electrostatic interactions. These processes can alter mass, charge, or biological activity, so storage conditions aim to slow them. The relative importance of each route varies widely among peptides.
Water is a central factor in peptide degradation because it enables hydrolysis and mobilizes reactive species. Lyophilized or dry powders typically remain stable for longer than solutions when kept cool and dry. Oxygen can drive oxidation, particularly for sulfur-containing residues, while light can catalyze side-chain damage. Buffer choice and pH influence charge state and can accelerate or slow deamidation and aggregation. Freeze-thaw cycles may concentrate solutes or promote ice-induced aggregation, so minimizing such cycles is a common handling goal.
In aqueous solution, peptides are vulnerable to hydrolysis, oxidation, deamidation, and aggregation, with rates influenced by pH, temperature, buffer composition, and ionic strength. Acidic or neutral pH ranges often slow deamidation, while extreme pH can accelerate peptide bond cleavage. Dissolved oxygen and redox-active metal ions contribute to oxidation of methionine, cysteine, and tryptophan residues. Aggregation may be driven by hydrophobic interactions or by interfaces such as air-liquid and container surfaces. Because these pathways interact, solution storage usually requires tighter control than storage of dried material.
Temperature is the most common controlled variable, but its effect is not linear. Lower temperatures reduce most chemical reaction rates, yet freezing can concentrate solutes and create pH shifts in the remaining liquid phase. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can denature or aggregate some peptides, especially those with hydrophobic segments. For lyophilized powders, desiccation and protection from moisture are often more important than deep freezing. For solutions, the choice between refrigeration and freezing depends on peptide concentration, buffer components, and the intended duration of storage.
It was during this time period that President Roosevelt made his first visit to Mexico in April 1943, in what was an exchange visit, as President Ávila Camacho was also visiting the US. Both met in the city of Monterrey, specifically at the Palacio de Gobierno, and one of the topics covered there was Mexican participation in the war. These meetings demonstrated that never before had such a close and positive bilateral relationship been formed between the two countries, thus resolving an era of hostility that began a century ago.
== Risks == Risks and complications of minimally invasive procedures are the same as for any other surgical operation, among the risks are: death, bleeding, infection, organ injury, and thromboembolic disease. There may be an increased risk of hypothermia and peritoneal trauma due to increased exposure to cold, dry gases during insufflation. The use of surgical humidification therapy, which is the use of heated and humidified CO2 for insufflation, may reduce this risk.
Historical novels like Ryōtarō Shiba's Tobu ga Gotoku mention characters like Saigō Takamori enjoying TKG (though likely fictionalized). An essay by Shōtarō Ikenami describes the Forty-seven Rōnin eating a version with duck and negi (historical accuracy uncertain). The book 365 Nichi Tamago Kake Gohan no Hon (2007) introduced 365 variations and popularized the abbreviation "TKG" for creative tamago kake gohan recipes. The idol group Nama Ham to Yaki Udon has a song titled "Tamago Kake Gohan" (2015).
The UV-inactivated SeV (and likely the alive virus as well) can stimulate dendritic cells to secrete chemokines and cytokines such as interleukin-6, interferon-beta, chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 5, and chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 10. These molecules activate both CD8+ T cells as well as natural killer cells. UV-inactivated SeV triggers the production of an intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, CD54), which is a glycoprotein that serves as a ligand for macrophage-1 antigen (Mac-1) and lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1 (integrin)). This induced production happens through the activation of NF-κB downstream of the mitochondrial antiviral signaling pathway and the RIG-I. The increased concentration of ICAM-1 on the cells surface increases the vulnerability of these cells to natural killer cells. It has been shown in the Namalwa cells that SeV virus stimulates an expression of many genes involved in immune defense pathways, such as type I and type II IFN signaling, as well as cytokine signaling. Among the ten most virus-induced mRNAs are IFNα8, IFNα13, IFNβ, IFNλ: (L28α, IL28β, IL29), OASL, CXCL10, CXCL11 and HERC5.

=== Multi-photon ionization === In multi-photon ionization (MPI), several photons of energy below the ionization threshold may actually combine their energies to ionize an atom. Resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) is a form of MPI in which one or more of the photons accesses a bound-bound transition that is resonant in the atom or molecule being ionized.
An increasingly important environmental concern is the disposal of old refrigerators—initially because chlorofluorocarbon coolants damage the ozone layer—but as older generation refrigerators wear out, the destruction of CFC-bearing insulation also causes concern. Modern refrigerators usually use a refrigerant called HFC-134a (1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane), which, unlike CFCs, does not deplete the ozone layer, although it still is a quite potent greenhouse gas. HFC-134a is becoming much rarer in Europe, where newer refrigerants are being used instead. The main refrigerant now used is R-600a (isobutane), which has a smaller effect on the atmosphere if released. There have been reports of refrigerators exploding if the refrigerant leaks isobutane in the presence of a spark. If the coolant leaks into the refrigerator, at times when the door is not being opened (such as overnight) the concentration of coolant in the air within the refrigerator can build up to form an explosive mixture that can be ignited either by a spark from the thermostat or when the light comes on as the door is opened, resulting in documented cases of serious property damage and injury or even death from the resulting explosion. Disposal of discarded refrigerators is regulated, often mandating the removal of doors for safety reasons. Children have been asphyxiated while playing with discarded refrigerators, particularly older models with latching doors. Since the 1950s regulations in many places have mandated using refrigerator doors that can be pushed opened from inside.
==== D ==== Daing – also known as Tuyô or Bilad, refers to dried fish from the Philippines, a variant of daing known as labtingaw, which uses less salt and is dried for a much shorter period (only a few hours). The resulting daing is still slightly moist and meatier than the fully dried variant.
Singapore, for instance, operates an Exit Permit scheme to enforce the national service obligations of its male citizens and permanent residents. These restrictions vary according to age and status. South Korea and Taiwan have similar policies. India, on the other hand, requires citizens who have not met certain educational requirements (and thus may be targeted by human traffickers or be coerced into modern slavery) to apply for approval before leaving the country and endorses their passports with "Emigration Check Required". Nepal similarly requires citizens emigrating to America on an H-1B visa to present an exit permit issued by the Ministry of Labour. This document, called a work permit, must be presented to immigration to leave the country. In a bid to increase protection for the large amount of Indian, Bangladeshi, Chinese, and Nepali citizens smuggled through Indian airports to the Middle East as underpaid labourers, many Indian airline companies require travellers to obtain an 'OK to Board' confirmation sent directly from visa authorities in certain GCC countries directly to the airline and will bar anyone who has not obtained this endorsement from clearing exit immigration. Eritrea requires the vast majority of its citizens to obtain special authorization to leave the country or even to travel within it.
== Electoral system == The president of Venezuela is elected by direct, secret ballot in a single nationwide constituency using plurality voting (first-past-the-post). Elections are organised and supervised by the National Electoral Council (CNE), one of the five constitutionally recognised branches of government, which oversees an automated voting system with electronic machines and paper audit trails. Article 227 of the Constitution sets eligibility criteria for presidential candidates, including being Venezuelan by birth without another nationality, at least 30 years old and with no disqualifying criminal convictions, while Article 229 bars sitting executive vice-presidents, ministers, governors and mayors from running unless they leave office beforehand.

Removing water reduces hydrolytic and some oxidative degradation. Powder forms are generally more stable for long-term storage than solutions. Stability still depends on peptide sequence, residual moisture, and container conditions.
Freezing slows most chemical reactions, but it can also concentrate solutes and promote aggregation during freezing or thawing. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are often more damaging than constant cold storage. Some peptides require specific buffers or additives to remain soluble.
pH affects charge, solubility, and the reactivity of amino acid side chains. It can influence deamidation, oxidation, and aggregation pathways. The best pH is peptide-specific and is usually identified through stability testing.
Multiple freezing and thawing events can cause aggregation, precipitation, or loss of soluble peptide. Dividing a solution into single-use aliquots before freezing reduces this risk. If multiple cycles are unavoidable, stability should be checked after thawing.
